AU Info: This is a progression of the concept started with [personal profile] poeticforce; wherein Poe is Force-sensitive and has always been, it only truly awakened when he was tortured by the First Order and Kylo Ren.

Several years have passed since the events of TLJ. While the Resistance tried their damnedest to bolster their anemic ranks and find allies that hadn't yet been stunned to silence by the First Order destroying the Hosnian System and New Republic capital, they were ultimately unsuccessful. The First Order was simply too large, too determined, and -- under the yoke of Kylo Ren -- too focused on snuffing out the Resistance at any cost.

After a devastating battle, and the heartbreaking loss of General Organa, the handful of the Resistance who survived the battle were forced to splinter and go their own ways in hopes of staying off the First Order's radar. Hope was not yet dead but only a few embers glowed and it would take more than other embers to bring the flame back.

During this time Poe has been forced to face several issues: the effect his reckless decisions had on the Resistance, the trauma he suffered at the hands of Kylo Ren, the (temporary) death of the Resistance, the loss of the one person he looked up to most and who was practically a second mother to him, and perhaps most importantly - his connection to the Force. In a way the latter was the most difficult for him to deal with, seeing as resources of knowledge were in drastically short supply and anyone he might have tried to look to for assistance was either dead or in the wind like he was. So Poe did what he always did. He shrugged his shoulders and just tried to make it work through sheer determination and a stubborn refusal to give up. If he could jump in a ship he had never seen before and figure out how to fly it within minutes, he could figure out the Force in a similar way.

He stayed nomadic in the immediate defeat of the Resistance, knowing well that he was high on the list of the First Order's targets and the safest thing he could do was to stay on the move. Eventually he made his way to Wild Space and lingered there. The further out from the Core, the safer he was from the First Order, even if other dangers rose to take its place. He came to somewhat settle on Teth as he deemed its inherent risk an acceptable one, as that same risk made it easier for him to hide. After all he went through in the war, dealing with smugglers of varying morals was practically a cakewalk.

Poe doesn't know what the future will bring. It's his desire to revive the Resistance -- that dream would never die -- but he can't do it on his own, especially when the galaxy didn't seem receptive to the message. All he can really do is bide his time, hone his skills, and keep his own flame of hope alive.

And, while he doesn't consider himself a Jedi (and probably never will, as he sees Luke Skywalker as the pinnacle of being a Jedi and he was definitely no Skywalker) he is unquestionably, undeniably Light. The nightmares he still has on occasion bring whispers from the Dark but they never last and he's managed to successfully brush off any urges or pulls toward the Dark. New dreams come to him at times, thoughts of crafting a saber, but he doesn't consider himself worthy of such and has preferred to stick to his blaster, supplemented by Force abilities when necessary.
